A wonderful craft for a windy day, these streamers look fantastic blowing in the breeze. If the wind dies, make your own by grabbing the string and making a run for it, tails fluttering magnificently behind you. The scales of these fish are created by cutting or ripping little bits from old magazines, construction paper, foil, or whatever you may have at hand. With a bit of patience you can achieve some pretty amazing results, with smaller pieces making more interesting patterns.
This craft could be done with a range of age groups, with even the youngest of children able to tear and glue the scales into place, but younger children might need a little help with the final assembly.

Print copies of fish pattern onto paper or card stock. Carefully cut out both fish from the pattern (these will be the two sides of the streamer). Cut or tear small "scales" from the magazines or paper and glue in place on the two sides of the fish. Tear or cut several lengths of ribbon or crepe paper and sandwich them between the two sides of the fish. Glue or staple the two sides together, making sure that the strips are attached inside. You can also stuff some scraps of paper inside to give your fish a little shape and thickness. Punch a hole through both sides, near the fish's mouth, and tie on a length of yarn or string to hang up your streamer.
