These rolled paper beads are beautiful and easy to make. They have a tapered shape similar to the hairpipe beads used by American Indians and can be made with a wide range of age and ability levels. They can be the foundation for any number of jewelry projects or make great decorations for any other type of project.

Print copies of template or use ruler to measure and mark angled lines for tapered strips of paper. Cut paper strips. Hold wide end of paper strip against nail or dowel and begin to wrap around, keeping paper centered to create tapered shape of bead. Glue down narrow end and slide finished bead off of end or dowel.
Plain paper beads can be colored with markers or crayons. String finished beads onto yarn or string to create necklaces or bracelets. Mix and match with purchased beads for a more decorative effect. Recycled magazines can be used in place of paper for a "greener" result.
